Deadly Nightshade may be the first book I have read by Billie Jade Kermack, but it certainly won't be the last. This is a "Nightmare Before Christmas" meets mafia story. A beautifully dark romance story.
Jax, a sexy unaliver with a heart of gold, is an enforcer. He protects the women and children of the town of Hollow Hills. He is a guarded vigilante who meets a scared woman who has known nothing but the control of others.
After meeting at a bank robbery, the chemistry sparks, and from there, it's nothing but an action-packed story that will leave you on the edge of your seat. As their broken pieces call to each other, they grow closer. Suzy brings the more sensitive, caring side of Jax. One that he doesn't show to just anyone. Jax brings the woman Suzy used to be back to life, teaching herself that there is more than being under the control of others. Teaching her how to fight back, showing her she is beautiful despite her flaws.
I love how the author gives the characters depth and makes it easy to picture the story. I found it easy to relate to the characters and I felt like I was a part of the story. I loved that even with the darker themes there was still a comedic twist. I found myself laughing at parts and drawn in, I didn't want to stop reading. I HIGHLY recommend reading the content warnings. Some tropes may have some sensitive topics for readers. The gore I didn't think was too explicit, it was the perfect amount for me. I loved Sister Margret, how she always seemed more relaxed and nonchalant.
I loved reading Deadly Nightshade and can't wait to read more!
